Second Day in Kuala Lumpur - Daytrips

Day trips from Kuala Lumpur are a great way to enjoy the beautiful surrounding areas of Pahang in the north and the historical city of Melaka. Both regions are equally popular for travellers to Kuala Lumpur

Option 1: Genting Highalands and Bukit Tinggi

Genting Highlands is one of the premier and my favourite destinations in Malaysia. The entertainment city has indoor and outdoor theme parks, Awana Cable Car, Shopping Outlets, Entertainment venues, luxury resorts and casinos. This destination is ideal for a family day trip or an extended stay in Genting for 1-2 nights.

Bukit Tinggi is a French-styled Village located in Berjaya Hills and can be combined with a trip to Genting if you plan to start early. The best option is to book a day tour with a local operator or Premier Taxi operator. The daily tour rates can vary from RM 400+ per vehicle. A premier taxi can accommodate 6 visitors.

Option 2: UNESCO Heritage City of Malacca - Melaka

Take a train to Masjid Jamek LRT. The well-known Central Market (Pasar Seni) is just a 5-minute walk from the station. This historic market is an excellent spot to purchase souvenirs, local crafts, batik, and travel keepsakes.

As you stroll along Kasturi Walk and Petaling Street, you'll notice numerous Chinese businesses offering herbs, spices, and locally made products. Petaling Street provides mid-range shopping options for replica handbags, suitcases, and designer clothes from international brands. For food enthusiasts, there are many specialized cafes and restaurants known for Hakka snacks and Chinese dishes and soups.

Explore the back streets including Lebuah Ampang, Jalan Panggung and Jalan Hang Jebat checking out hidden bars, restaurants and cafes.

The historical Trail features the most renowned landmarks in the old section of the town, all accessible on foot. Stroll over to Merdeka Square to explore the Art Gallery, Museums, and Masjid Negara. This area can be toured in 2 hours at a leisurely pace. A ten-minute walk links Merdeka Square with Masjid Negara.

Alternatively, a hop-on hop-off bus offers the best way to experience these sites without excessive walking.
